Oops sorry for the bad info on my part. I guess I haven't played with the options much on v3, because I don't need them at this time. I didn't notice any price fields when I quickly tried to add option groups, so I thought it didn't allow it. I guess I should have messed with it more. At least there was a good answer.

Linda, the information you posted is partially incorrect. The Build To Order version is not needed for the task posted by Louis.

Standard version and product options
Using the standard version of ProductCart you can have unlimited product options, unlimited attributes without those options, and associate price differentials (+/- a certain amount) with any attribute within any option group. The price differentials are not set storewide. They are defined at the product level.

There are many tools that allow you to assign the same product options (option groups and attributes) to multiple products at once, in case those products share the same or similar options.

Option pricing as a percentage of product price
What you can't do - whithout a bit of custom programming - is assigning the price differential as a percentage of the product's base price, as Louis said. However, a competent ASP programmer could easily add that feature. For example, it could be built into the feature that allows to assign product options to multiple products at once. Build To Order
As for Build To Order: you need it if you need a product configurator to be part of the purchasing process. Otherwise, you typically don't need BTO. There is a huge difference between using product options and using a full-featured product configurator. Learn more about our configuration software. Okay forgive me if I am giving bad information. Please feel free to correct me.

But from my understanding the current options for products on the standard PC version don't allow price add-on with the "Option Groups". However, they do have a version of productcart called BTO (Built to Order). Here's where I am not totally sure: from what I undersand, you can add options using this upgrade and place a price on the option when added to the base product. You can also manage several additional options and set a price for each. For example: you rent x for y days and you can add days for an additional price, and even give them the option to choose insurance with the products for an additional price. I think BTO works similar to that of DELL when you custom build a computer. You get several options to choose from to add onto your base product and each with it's own price. I am also not sure if you can add BTO to the standard version or if it's a separate product.

I am building a website, and want to use PC to rent products out to people instead of selling products. I thought, why not, let�s get creative.

My question concerns the "option group" function.

Normally you would sell a product (let�s say a chair) for a certain price (let�s say 300), and use the product option function to let a client choose an option (let�s say leather arm rests instead of normal fabric), adding a fixed amount to the initial amount (let�s day +50).

I thought, I can use the function as follows: the initial product price is the rental price for 1 day. I can use the option group function to let the client add 1 more day to rent the product, adding an X amount to the initial rental price. And so forth for every other day.

The problem is that, since every product has a different rental price, I would have to make a product option group for every product I rent out. And that would mean an endless task.

Solution: Would it be possible to have the price increase of an option, inside an option group, increase by a percentage instead of a fixed amount. This way you would only have to make 1 option group for all products, adding 100% for each extra day the client wants to rent the product. If the client wants to rent the product for a week, you could make an option called 'one week', and add 700% to the price.

How would I go about this? Maybe this is a nice one for the next update?
