Actually I would like to enable product reviews more of an exception then the rule.

I design electronic effect kits, for musicians, and want customers to be able to review the kits.
At the same time, I sell discrete parts separate from the kits. I do not need people to give
a review of a resistor or a capacitor but, a review of the completed kit would be help to me
and my prospective customers.

It would be nice if EI could add a check box for “Enable Reviews” in the Other Settings
section in addition to the global setting in their next update.

Seems to me that this would be a nice and easy feature for EI to add. I can definitely see where there would be situations where one might not want reviews for certain products though they use the feature in general.

Just curious, but are there any common parameters that define which products you'd prefer not to have review enabled on -- for example: certain brands, categories, etc. ... something already in the db that these products could be detected by? If so, then this would be very simple to do. Short of that, it would definitely require some custom engineering. For example, the keyword "NOREVIEW" could be stored in the product notes field and then sniffed out before the call to the subroutine that invokes the reviews region on product pages. Not without customization, which I've not done that specific mod before, but I don't think this would be all that difficult. 
 
My tabbed product page module features extra input fields and checkboxes which are introduced to the admin - you just have to use them wherever you need to do so.  I'd start by installing that module, thus saving the effort to update all the admin tools.  Then label one of the checkboxes to support turning reviews on/off.  Then go into the product detail page and implement the necessary code - using this switch to override the general reviews on/off switch.
