Finally had a chance to test the default behavior to be sure, but as suspected - Drop Shippers are only notified when Standard Products are purchased separately. Unfortunately, the scenario where BTO Items are Drop Shipped is not supported... however your second question/comment IS supported. Just make sure that the Standard Product that is assigned to a BTO configuration is not in a 'hidden' BTO-only Category. You can see an example on the BTO Demo store where the Antec Case (first product in the configuration):

All of our BTO products are drop-shipped. Additionally, some of our BTO products have BTO Item options which are drop-shipped by a different drop-shipper.

Is there any way to handle an order such as this? Where the main BTO product is shipped by one drop-shipper, and one of the configurable options (a BTO item) on the product is shipped by a different drop shipper?

Additionally, is it possible to put a standard product up as an option on a BTO product?
