My site has EDI integration. www.medicalscrubscollection.com. I hired a programmer to create a standalone application that not only updates my inventory, it also creates the apparel products and subproducts, including the images, swatches, color and size options.
 
We are provided with a data file from our supplier and the program parses the file and feeds the data into ProductCart. Is this something that you are looking for? Perhaps I can hook you up with the guy I hired. I will check his availability. You can PM me for his info.

I spent years, 15 years ago, building integrations to EDI systems in the IBM small systems world.   It used to be something that made me distinct from other contractors in that I did work in that environment when many others did not. Haven't touched it since, but I certainly am familiar with it.
 
It's totally cracking me up that these guys have sufficient expectations that there will be problems with their site that they have placed a link with such a label in their primary navigation.  Talk about negative expectations!  Yikes...
