You would either need to add some custom Javascript validation or wait until the order is placed to check for a problem. That sounds like it will work. Would this method give us any way to keep the customer from cheating? eg choosing 1-5 characters but actually typing in 20?

As far as the engraving on the back of the medals, is there a way to charge by the letter for engraving, rather than just charge a flat rate engraving? Obviously if someone has 5 letters as opposed to 20 letters, then the charge should be different.
