I've never seen anything like that on any version of PC I'm familiar with.
 
I suggest you do a code compare to find out what's different on this store with an out of the box comperable version.
 
I find WinMerge and excellent tool for this kind of analysis and work.

My clients reported us that the subtotal shows a wrong amount in the "order received" email which is automatically generated by product cart. The Total shows a correct amount. I'm not sure which file I should check. I'd appreciate your advise. 
 
This website has a custom modification in ordInvoice.asp and batchprint.asp.
