    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forum.productcart.com/member_profile.asp?PF=290">Greg Dinger</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 2780<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 06-June-2009 at 10:17pm<br /><br /><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV>Moving a MSSQL database is not particularly difficult but you may not have sufficient permissions to undertake it without cooperation of your current and new hosts.<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Some details are here: <a href="http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/how_to/move_store?s%5b%5d=moving" target="_blank">http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/how_to/move_store?s&#091;&#093;=moving</A></DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>You need to preferably do this at a time when the store is typically quiet, if you know of such a time.&nbsp; If you can closely coordinate this with everyone, that is best. </DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>First, set the store to "closed" so that orders don't arrive at the old host during the transition.&nbsp; </DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Ask the old host to pull a backup of the database and provide it to you.&nbsp; They will probably place it in a folder on your web site.&nbsp; Download that via FTP and upload it to the new server.&nbsp; Then tell the new host where to locate that backup so they may perform the procedure required to import (restore) the database to the new SQL server.&nbsp; Ask that this be done as soon as practical since the store on the old host is closed.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Once this is done, transfer DNS.&nbsp; Also, assuming the new host provides a means by which you may address your site prior to DNS transfer, test the store and reverse the flag indicating the store is closed on the new host.&nbsp; This way when DNS does transfer, and customers find their way there, your store is open for business.</DIV>]]>
