By the "main screen" are you referring to the home page?  If that's the case, I'd probably be inclined to do the "move home page to root" modification and in that process comment out the price fields in the appropriate include files (such as pcShowProductH.asp).

On edit, I'll add that I'd do it this way to isolate the display features of the home page (in the root) from the other pages (in the PC folder) thus simplifying this.  There are other approache which are easy if you write code, and would take a few minutes to map out if you do not.
