One idea that we have been playing with is putting together gift packages, or packaged deals, but run into the problem of managing inventory if we do this.  Here are the two scenarios we are considering:

  1. We have a category for gift baskets (seasonal or monthly change or some such), and assemble different collections of our products that customers could purchase all at once.
  2. Allow someone to purchase a gift basket where they can choose a certain number of products from a pre-defined list, and either be charged a set price for the basket, or get a certain percentage off what the total products would have normally cost if they bought them individually.
We like option 1 best.

Here are some of the issues we have come up with in trying to implement either one of the solutions above:
  1. If we create a gift basket and say what is in it, and we run out of one of the products since we also sell it in the store, we have to hope no one purchases that gift basket before we can modify the description.
  2. There is no way to automatically adjust inventory levels if we sold items in groups like this.
  3. Since we sell clothing using the apparel add-in, we would need to make sure that we could ask for size (at a minimum) and maybe even color (but maybe not a show stopper) to make sure that what we send out will work for that person.
Anyways, just thought it would be a good idea to toss out there.  Perhaps something that could be added to future versions of the gift add in.
