I have found that to be annoying too. I think customer's are excited to enter the discount codes and calculate their total and they don't realize they need to change the payment method first even though it appears before the input field. Then when they place their order they think all is peachy until you charge them the wrong total.  Or until they go to the confirmation page. Either way it should retain the codes.

yah i noticed that too... if you go back from the payment page it also loses it. How do you get discount and gift certificate codes to stay imputted? If a discount code is not automatically added during checkout and a customer has to input it manually, if you change the payment method they disappear and have to be re-inputted. Thanks in advance.
